Kevin Keegan on 'lady footballers' being pundits on mens games
Expressing an opinion .... dangerous these days

https://news.sky.com/story/kevin-keegan-says-he-doesnt-like-lady-footballers-talking-about-england-mens-team-12977463

Personally I think inviting female players to be 'experts' on mens football is like Sky appointing ex-players who had careers in mens non-league or League 2.
Which would never happen
That said in a pure hosting capacity I have always said Gabby Logan would be a far superior MOTD host to Lineker at a fraction of the cost

Also I think it's really important he should be allowed to say his piece without fear of being cancelled or of offending someone.
Ok there are limits. If he'd said they are all useless splitarse chbts who can't string 3 useful words together I'd say he'd gone too far.

But he was polite.
Expressed an opinion
Backed his viewpoint up.

Ffs !
If we never have a real conversation about anything we'll never sort anything put ever again
It's like the remotest offence is a thought crime.

Also woman don't have penises

Everyone who has reacted to this from what I have seen have misunderstood what point he was making in their blind rage. He was saying that women summarisers cant explain the impact of a body position in a men's game as it is different to women's matches. The black bird on the cricket gets on my nerves, she has never faced rockets bowled by a 6'6 fast bowler so how can she comment. She never faced Shane Warne. Same point KK was making.

Re: Kevin Keegan on 'lady footballers' being pundits on mens games
Yep - and then you get intellectual retards on Twitter (cough, James Felton) who take quotes from interviews completely out of context to try and make some sort of point.

The one in question was Keegan commenting that "Argentina won't be at Euro 200 because they're from South America".

Felton, being the absolute cock that he is, posts this quote with no context with a comment of "how could women ever hope to match such Keegan insights as this".

England had just played badly vs. Argentina in a pre tournament warm up, so the context Keegan said it in was fine. Felton doesn't note this though. What an absolute cunt.

I read the report and Keegan only said that he didn’t like ex women internationals talking about how England men players should be playing because they have never been that standard.

He also complimented women presenters and said they were often better than the men. Storm in a teacup where the pig ignorant get outraged over misleading headline assumptions.

Where's Nursey...

I thi know I'd take what she has to say about women commentators and pundits over Kevin Keegan tbh

Had the men's game not been invented, would women have dreamt football up all by themselves?

The fucking prick is now moaning that people are directing negative comments towards her. Unbelievable hypocrisy.

These 'agenda' twats are a law unto themselves. I used to work with a lesbian lady who would play the discrimination card if you disagreed with anything she said, and her 'mates' would circle the wagons. Although utterly incompetent she ended up getting a senior position in HR. Fucking idiots.

Leanne Sanderson has come out and said that in reference to Kevin Keegans comments on the England national team , he is irrelevant

One of the greatest players of all time, 63 caps for England, managed the England team and won the Ballon D’or twice makes him irrelevant

That’s the level of analysis that Keegan is slating, I can see why.

'Make use of the volume button.

When we go to games, we dont have someone describing the action for us, no reason for it to be any different at home.'

I do. Hence my desire for it to be the default option. Thought that was clear enough?

I suspect there are lots of village standard footballers offering their opinions on WHO, mself* included...

*Some villages are very small

Punditry is shit. Male or female. I appreciate trying to be more receptive to the overall audience, but kids watch football more than women and no-one is championing them being pundits.

If I was given the option of zero commentary and punditry. I'd take that every time.

Re: Kevin Keegan on 'lady footballers' being pundits on mens games
He is spot on.

Last week in the WSL match on Sky it was completely women covering it, and rightly so.

Now that should be the same with men’s football.

If I choose to watch women’s football then I should expect woman covering it.

I’m sick of village standard players offering me their opinions.

Haven’t read the whole thread so apologies if mentioned but I read that one of the Irish National sides is going to start giving equal pay to their men and women.

Be interesting to see how that spreads…

Agree with a lot of what's already said. For me the main problem is the broadcasters have obviously set a policy of having women in big roles which means with less of them in the media you end up with some real unqualified annoying women pundits and commentators.

That said, as Swindon said below, whist you've got people like Micah Richards in the hot seat who never says anything remotely interesting or technical, there is your very low benchmark.

If you want someone to just talk you’d want it to be a bit entertaining and have some deeper insights.

Re: Kevin Keegan on 'lady footballers' being pundits on mens games
I do agree that it helps if you were a player at a high level when giving opinions but it’s not always a necessity.

A lot of the best managers weren’t great players who played at the highest level so the same logic could be applied to pundits as well.

Someone like Jill Scott played for England during the women’s euros in front of 80 thousand fans and millions watching on TV so who’s to say she isn’t qualified to have an opinion on the men’s game?

Micah Richards on the other hand played top flight football for over a decade and played for England so he’s also qualified to have an opinion but he comes across as thick as shit, just constantly laughs very annoyingly and loudly and just seems to be there for the “Bants”

Given the choice out of the 2 I would rather listen to insight from Jill Scott.

That being said I do think there is an issue with TV companies trying to fill a criteria and putting a women into every show even if they aren’t very good.

Gabby Logan is excellent at what she does Alex Scott isn’t.

I applaud Keegan for shit stirring.

I guess when he said he didnt particularly enjoy female pundits he meant their knowledge, tone and presence.

Funny I find goalkeepers weird pundits , but also find outfield players talking about keeping odd and clueless " he should've got to that " the only insight. Then theres refs been quite interesting hearing these oddballs and often make the pundits look even more stupid. I can't stand the tnt pundits ,yet the women are so much better finally than jake humphries . I like some women pundits ,some a lot others are dreadful and it's pretty similar with the men . Then there's press ,some I like some I don't. All in all , I can't actually say I'm that bothered especially when at the match I can only hear the drunk men and women around me with there crazy views and some of them never played a single second clearly.
